Stockport 5 Coventry 0

On Tuesday, we saw Blossoms play a warm up gig in front of a very small intimate crowd at Coventry’s HMV Empire

It was my 8th time seeing the band, and definitely the most intimate setting to date. Watching the band play in a room that small was something quite special. Especially having seen them always play much larger spaces from arenas to festival headlines and even a hometown gig at Stockport’s Edgeley Park.

Seeing them in a room with only 1000 people was an entirely new experience. Much closer, much tighter, much more intimate.

It helps that Blossoms have become of the tightest, most well knit bands in the U.K. currently. Musically each member excells. Joe is a very very good drummer, Charlie’s bass and backing vocals are a cornerstone of Blossoms sound and have been since the very beginning. Josh is such an underrated guitar player, he adds to every song whether that’s with a brilliant guitar solo or complimentary riffs. Finally Myles, he has become one of the most well loved musicians in recent years. His keyboard and synth playing is something that makes Blossoms unique.

Tom has grown into his front man role. Embracing two of his northern counter parts in the process. Morrissey and Jarvis Cocker run through his performances, and his charisma and quick wit really show this.

Four albums in there discography is perfect for a live show, each album gets a run out. From 2016’s Self Titled debut in the form of ‘Getaway’ ‘Honey Sweet’ a reworked version of ‘My Favourie Room’ and of course ‘Charlemagne’ through to most recent effort ‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’ with the title track, ‘Ode to NYC’ and ‘The Sulking Poet’ all being played.

They have gone on to become one of Britains best live bands and Tuesday night was an opportunity I could not pass up. If you get chance to see them, you shouldn’t pass on it either!
