Big Weekend

Radio 1 announced 'Big Weekend' for 2025 today (28th January 2025). The event takes place each year and is held in a different city. 2025's event will be held in Liverpool's Sefton Park. This is the first time the event has ever been held in Liverpool.

The first wave of acts was also revealed, Sam Fender, Blossoms, Wet Leg, Lola Young and Myles Smith lead the line up. Which will take place from Friday May 23 to Sunday May 25. Sam has been confirmed as the first headline act.

Lola Young has recently hit the top spot on the UK Singles Charts with her viral hit 'Messy' which has become a bit of a sensation on Tik Tok.

Blossoms explained: “We’re delighted that Radio 1 have invited us to play at this year’s Big Weekend.
“Even more so because it’s taking place in Liverpool, a city close to our hearts, where we’ve worked and recorded every single one of our albums since our debut in 2016. It’s going to be a really special weekend and we can’t wait to perform.

Sefton Park has more than proved it's worth for gigs. It previously hosted Blossoms in 2021 for the historic Covid pilot show.

Last year the famous park, hosted Catfish & the Bottlemen, Jamie Webster and Cream Classical. Liverpool is a city with rich musical culture, and Radio 1 is still the most popular and biggest radio station in the UK. It's the perfect match.

The festival has hosted some famous names over the years. From Coldplay, The 1975, Lewis Capaldi, Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, Biffy Clyro, Kasabian, Wolf Alice, Paolo Nutini, Arctic Monkeys.

It's always been a chance for people to see the biggest acts of the moments, on one stage in one place on one weekend.

I feel these acts are good first bill. Blossoms have become one of the best live bands of recent times. Wet Leg are working their way up festival bills, the duo are headlining Truck Festival later in the year. Sam Fender is the brightest spark in British music at the minute, now three albums in and selling out stadiums for fun. He is a great pull for any festival at the minute. Glastonbury are you listening?

Further information about Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2025, including headliners and full line-up and ticketing details will be announced on Radio 1 in the coming months. BBC Radio 1 will broadcast live from the festival site across the weekend, with performances and tracks available live and on-demand via Radio 1’s iPlayer channel and BBC Sounds.

What do you think of the first announcement? Who else are you hoping for?
