John, Paul, George and Ringo. The Beatles. I feel as if these are universally known as musical icons, and rightly so. Here’s the reasons they are mine.
I don’t remember the first time I heard The Beatles, I feel as if they are a constant in your life they are always there. ‘Hey Jude’ was probably the first track I properly listened to as a child along with ‘Yellow Submarine.’ Those songs have a childlike innocence about them along with their timeless nature it’s probably why they are being played still today and why new generations are finding the ‘Fab Four.’
As I became a teenager I delved deeper into their discography and you find just how diverse their music is. I began to appreciate the songwriting ability of the band as I got older. ‘A Day in the Life’ for example still sounds contemporary and fresh even though it was released over 50 years ago. Hearing songs like ‘A Day in the Life’ ‘Within You Without You’ ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ ‘In My Life’ etc made me do more research into the band. Yes became obsessed with Sgt Peppers and how it was made, Abbey Road and Liverpool.
The Beatles have such a varied fan base to, I’ve found this as I’ve gotten older. There are people who know who they are and know tracks like ‘Hey Jude and She Loves You’ and then there are people who disregard the earlier stuff and adore ‘Revolver’ etc. Whereas others like me adore the whole collection of music.
They are musical icons because in 7 years they changed not only their musical style but also the way popular music was made and consumed forever. We wait years now for bands to release new material The Beatles released a timeless album every year. Their discography is still listened to today and they’ve gone on to influence countless bands and artists and the individual members of the band became symbols for change and rebellion.
Without John, Paul, George and Ringo would the world be the same as it is now. I highly doubt it.
And that brings us to the end.For John, Paul, George and Ringo x
‘And in The End, the love you take is equal to the love you make’
