Musical Icon: Fleetwood Mac

Disclaimer: This post will be about the Buckingham and Nicks era of the band. As that is the music I most associate with Fleetwood Mac x
Rumours in my opinion is still one of the greatest albums ever written and recorded in my opinion and it’s the album I most associate with Fleetwood Mac. It’s still a treasured part of my record collection and an album that reminds me of amazing times and my friends. That’s my overriding thought about Fleetwood Mac, the songs create a sense of unity and a common thing which me and a number of my friends have in common.
Anyway enough about me. The music itself is brilliant, the band became a power house of 70s and 80s pop music. Creating timeless melodies and sing along choruses. It’s such a unique sound, you can instantly tell you’re listening to a Fleetwood Mac songs. I’ve always found that they have a special feeling and a connection unlike any other band. Even though they became one of the biggest bands ever, it feels as if they are singing about you and your thoughts and feelings.
I also admire how much the band developed and changed musical styles. Even in the Buckingham and Nicks period. Songs like ‘Dreams’ and ‘Big Love’ are worlds apart but they are from the same band. Sonically and stylistically the band were never afraid to change or develop their sound.
Those records are timeless pieces of music and in my opinion when the band were at the very peak. Rumours and Tango in the Night especially. Both of these records still sound fresh, and contemporary despite being released over 30 and 40 yes’s ago respectively.
A brilliant band, and true musical icons.
