Musical Icon: Blossoms

These 5 lads from Stockport may not have been around for as long as some of the other musical icons I’ve covered before. However since 2016 they’ve been a staple in my record collection.

They released their self titled debut album in 2016 featuring the singles ‘Charlemagne’ and ‘Blown Rose’ and I fell in love with the catchy choruses and big hooks. In March of 2017 I saw them for the first time and live they blew me away, Tom, Joe, Josh, Charlie and Myles are all unbelievable musicians and Tom’s voice is amazing. I could tell that night the only way was up for them. I was right.

‘Cool Like You’ the bands second album followed in 2018 and saw them develop there sound, more synths and electronic sounding drums created an 80s feel. I saw them again on this tour and watched them play to 15,000 at Edgeley Park in Stockport there hometown. Somehow they improved as a live band and the sound got bigger and bigger. More and more people also got behind the band, and they became more popular.

In January 2020 they released their third album ‘Foolish Loving Spaces’ a further development of the bands sound, with a blend of the previous two albums and a ‘Talking Heads’ feel. This album propelled the band further up festival bills and into arenas. Who knows what the future holds for them?

One thing I do know is that Blossoms are here to stay, and they’ll continue to be a huge part of my record collection. They’re my band. I missed Oasis, Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian but Blossoms, I was there at the start.
