Oasis announced the lead support for their Uk and Ireland leg of the Live 25 tour today. Taking to the stage with Oasis will be former Verve front man Richard Ashcroft.
Ashcroft had been heavily rumoured following the announcement in August. With many fans rightfully believing he was nailed on. The brothers and Ashcroft have history. Playing together on numerous occasions. Most famously when The Verve supported Oasis at Earls Court in 1997.
Ashcroft commented following on from the announcement. Stating
“As a fan from day one I was buzzing got many reasons when the news of Oasis’s return was announced. I can say with no exaggeration that the songwriting of Noel and Liam’s pure sprit as a lead singer helped to inspire me to create some of my best work. It was the perfection of Live Forever that forceed me to try and write my own. They dared me to be great, made the dreams we had real and I will always remember those days with joy. Now its time to create more memories and I'm ready to bring it. See you next summer. Music is power.
Ashcroft inspired by the sound of Oasis amongst many other factors fronted one of Britains greatest ever bands The Verve and has continued on as a solo artist.
He also happens to have an Oasis song dedicated to him.
Noel dedicated 1995’s Cast No Shadow to the then Verve frontman following the bands first break up.
In the sleeve notes of “Whats the Story Morning Glory” Gallagher dedicated the song to “the genius of Richard Ashcroft.”
There's history between the brothers and Ashcroft. I know fans are happy about Ashcroft taking to the stage.
I'm sure he will put on a good show. Who else would you like to share the stage with Oasis next year. It has to be Blossoms for me.
