On Thursday 26th January 2023, The 1975 finished their UK leg of the 'At Their Very Best' tour in Liverpool.
I happened to be at this gig, and in the post I thought I'd give you some thoughts. If you have read any reviews of gigs on this tour, they will all say the same thing. It's a tale of two halves. The first half of the show see's the band preform in the stage set of a house, for a fake TV special. It's a show within a show and see's Matty Healy really play up to his stereotypes. Drinking, smoking, all like a rockstar should if you believe the media. This part of the show is soundtracked for the most part by the bands latest record 'Being Funny in a Foreign Language.' with 9 of the 11 songs being played. Being a fan of this latest effort I really enjoyed this part of the show, it's very different to anything I have ever seen before...
Now this is where it gets weird....
The band walk off stage, and we see a topless Matty Healy eat some raw steak, and crawl into a TV after doing pressups in front of said TV showing images of of Liz Truss, Andrew Tate and Vladimir Putin. One of the weirdest things I have seen live.
The second part of the set, is where the band shift up a gear. It's a greatest hits set, and believe me they've got a lot of hits. From 'Robbers' to 'Paris. 'She's American' to 'Love It If We Made It.' it's a true showcase as to what the band can do. It's a frantic fast paced set, which doesn't give fans a breather but it's brilliant.
It's easy to see why they are one of the UK's best bands.
