November 14th saw the organisers of Neighbourhood Weekender announce that the festival will not be taking place in 2024. A shock for fans and a huge miss for the festival calendar next year.
Neighbourhood Weekender has been a fixture in the festival calendar since 2018, hosted in Victoria Park, in Warrington it was the perfect location for music fans from the midlands and North West. Really easy to get to, three stages, great acts and half an hour away from Manchester and Liverpool. What more could you want.
The festival had a great ability of pulling in huge acts even though the size of the festival was relatively small. Just look at some of the posters of previous line ups bellow.
They have always managed to attract brilliant headliners from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds to Pulp, Richard Ashcroft to Catfish & The Bottlemen.
Neighbourhood also had a knack of getting great bands or artists on the way up. Inhaler, Blossoms, Gerry Cinnamon, Sam Fender, Lewis Capaldi, Tom Grennan, Sea Girls have all played the festival, often in the tent, where fans are given the chance to see these now huge acts before they made it big.
However the announcement that the festival has postponed for a year didn’t come as much of a surprise for me. Who do they book as headliners now, repeat themselves and get the same old guard back. Those who the festival helped promote are now arguably too big Sam Fender is selling out stadiums. It’s a difficult one. I hope they come back strong in 2025. However me and many others will have to find alternative entertainment in May 2024.
