I Wish I Was in Glasgow…

The 14th July 2023 saw Gerry Cinnamon release his first, but very much long awaited live album.

Live at Hampden Park, takes live versions of Gerry’s best from his biggest gigs to date. Two homecoming shows at Glasgow’s Hampden Park. Which happened last summer

It seemed fitting for Gerry to record this gig. Glasgow is his home, and his first big gig in Glasgow. TRNSMT in 2018 was arguably the catalyst for his success. Live at Hampden sees him come full circle. Firmly at the table of Britains biggest artists. With a rise that has been nothing short of meteoric.

A solo artist with no backing, no label. Just a guitar, some songs and word of mouth. Famous fans have come along for the journey from Liam Fray, to Liam Gallagher. Who have given him a helping hand when needed.

To sell out two nights in a football stadium to 100,000 people though. He must have something. Something that keeps people coming back.

And they do keep coming back. Gerry’s fans are like football ultras, it’s such a unique devoted loyal fan base. This album proves that they are simply not spectators watching a performance. They are much a part of it as the man of the stage. Hearing those songs on an album is not the same as hearing them live.

This album has given fans who have seen Gerry live, re live those memories. For those that haven’t it shows them what a Gerry gig can be like.

There’s something there for all of his fans from the casual to the extremely devoted. ‘Discoland’ has finally been added to Spotify. One of the highlights of any Gerry gig. It’s been a long wait but it’s been worth it. We get a new song in the form of ‘Sacred’ a hidden gem, which will excite fans for the next Gerry record. ‘I Wish I Was in Glasgow’ is a beautiful tribute to Billy Connolly another of the cities famous sons. Of course all of the classics are there too.

It’s a welcome addition to the Gerry discography, and it shows a few things. His live shows, are truly special affairs. He’s not a one trick pony, the songs are different and the next chapter seems to be an exciting one.

I’ll leave you with my overriding thoughts. Clash Magazine once described The Stone Roses debut album, as ‘overwhelming statement of Working Class pride’

This album is the representation of Working Class pride, and of a hometown hero. It sees a city rally around one of its own, it also shows the power music can hold. What Gerry Cinnamon has done is nothing short of remarkable. So people of Glasgow, you have the right to be proud.

Thanks for reading x
