On Friday 3rd March 2023, Glastonbury announced it's first wave of acts, including the two remaining headliners, we already knew Elton John would be headlining on Sunday after the announcement in December. Now after Friday's announcement we know that Arctic Monkeys will be headlining on the Friday and Guns N Roses the Saturday.
The lineup will also feature Blondie, Becky Hill, Lizzo, The War on Drugs, Royal Blood, Young Fathers, Lana Del Rey, Fatboy Slim and many more.
The line up has already been met with some criticism with all of the headliners being male, however Lizzo is being classed as Co-Headliner along with Gun's n Roses on the Saturday. Emily Eavis has commented saying that "Guns N’ Roses were booked when a previously confirmed female headliner pulled out because she “changed her touring plans”, Leading many to suspect that Taylor Swift was meant to headline on the Saturday.
Lana Del Rey has also threatened to pull out of the festival, she is due to headline the other stage which is a prestigious slot in its own right. Following the announcement on Friday, Lana took to Instagram and said this below the official Glastonbury announcement
I can see why Lana, is annoyed she is a huge artist in her own right, however this is the way that Glastonbury have always done things, the headliners are at the top of the poster, and the rest of the acts are then listed in alphabetical order. We can only wait and see what she does before the festival.
I am quite happy with the line up, it's quite diverse in both gender and genre. In my opinion they have smashed 2 out of 3 Headliners, Arctic Monkeys and Elton John are huge coups for the festival. Guns N Roses however, I can't help but think there were other options, both male and female. Take a risk, throw a curveball or even bring somebody back! Florence & the Machine, Pulp, Blur are all touring this year. The american bands, Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Paramore are also playing dates in the UK. Sam Fender played a blinder last year, and is now transitioning to headlining festivals, after the success of Stormzy, why not give Dave a go. The 1975 and their arena show would translate well to Worthy Farm. Haim smashed it last year, and I believe they would be a good headliner
Bias Jack is now coming out now, Stereophonics last played 21 years ago and they certainly have the catalog of hits to do it. Emily Eavis said in 2017 that Courteeners could headline Glastonbury, why not give them a go!
I just feel like there was more options...
What do you think of the line up? Like it, don't like it!
