On Tuesday (9th July 2024) Courteeners fans got some news that they had been waiting for a long time.
The first sound of new music. Since 2020. It’s hard to believe that’s it’s been four and a half years since ‘More. Again. Forever’ many have wondered and speculated would there be new music.
Questions were answered, the band released a new single. The rather joyous ‘Solitude of the Night Bus’
Speaking about the song, Courteeners frontman Liam Fray stated. ‘The song came out of a time of questioning and low confidence. Which I suppose is what makes it so fun.’
‘Its a summer breeze. But its a winter night. Either way sometimes you have to block out the noise. My late Uncle Pat loved a whistle so it's a bit of a homage to him. Get on the bus; headphones in; go your own way. Its the feel good imposter syndrome hit of the summer.’
The band also announced their seventh album ‘Pink Cactus Cafe’. Its a real collaborative affair with Fray taking Co-Producer role. Help has come from James and Ian Skelly. Brooke Combe, DMAS, Charlie Salt (Blossoms), amongst others.
Fray described the album as the most ‘collaborative and rewarding thing we've done, its a real melting pot of an album.
Following the album announcement, the band also announced tour dates were incoming. Today (Friday 12th July) those dates were announced
Six Arena dates, including a massive show at Manchester’s Co-Op Live. They've made the jump into arenas.
It's been a long time coming. I for one am glad that Courteeners are back. Four and half years is a long time.
