The story of Starman
‘Starman’ is the 4th track on ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars’ and one of David Bowie’s most famous songs. Becoming a fan favourite and live staple for years to come. The song wasn’t originally included on the album and was a late addition, despite this late addition ‘Starman’ became the albums lead single.
Lyrically the song talks about ‘Ziggy Stardust’ a character created by Bowie, beaming a message of hope to the youth on earth. Through the alien ‘Starman.’ The song itself is told from the point of view of the people on earth who hear Ziggy’s message.
The song became a classic of the Glam era and one of Bowie’s most well loved songs. ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars’ is often seen as Bowie’s best work by fans and critics alike, and this song is often pointed out to be the best on that album.
A true classic
