If you were to take a trip to the top of my playlist, you would find a song called Go by the British band Public Service Broadcasting, which takes the listener on a trip to the moon.

I was first played the song by one of my friends, after he had explained the concept to me. The song uses standard instrumentation, drums, synthesizers, guitars etc. As well as archive footage.

The band aim to be "teaching the lessons of the past through the music of the future." In the case of Go and its parent album The Race for Space, the band are teaching the listener about the Moon Landings, the archive footage from the British Film Institute uses real communications between NASA scientists and the astronauts sent up to space. To transport the listener to that time and to highlight the importance of those events.

One thing I want to highlight though, is that Go is a brilliant song, the chorus, is extremely catchy. The instrumentation adds a dynamic to the song, it sounds like a song about space should. Atmospheric, big, dark in places, powerful drums create tension, a rumbling bass sets the pace, slowing things down when needed and then speeding things back up when we find out 'The Eagle has Landed'

Its a piece of music unlike anything I have ever heard before, it's brilliant.

Give it a listen

Thank you for reading x
